Happy Anniversary Mike!
We've come a long way in seven years. Dreaming dreams and watching them come true little by little. Finding our way through the maze of life, and learning, together, the delicate dance of marriage. Our life is mostly full of joy and happiness but when it's not, we lean on each other. Because really, that's what the dance is. It's laughter and smiles but it's also hugs and tears. It's beautiful and heart wrenching, and I wouldn't want to step on anyone else's toes but yours when I miss a beat :)
I walked out the front door this morning and was greeted by a brilliant blue sky. There is a chill in the air and the breeze has bite.... it's pretty much the perfect Autumn day- just like the day we were married.
I went to our favorite Dunkin Donuts and life bustled around me. Just like that morning, years ago, before the wedding day events began. I walked into Dunkin Donuts with a twinkle in my eye. Because I knew, that for most people, nothing particularly eventful would happen that Saturday, but our day? Our day was about to become extraordinary. Our lives were about to become extraordinary.
What I remember most about that day, is the first few moments at the church. I heard the gospel group and I remember thinking, Oh, my gosh, they are going to break the stained glass windows! And then I smiled, because you would LOVE it if the gospel choir sang joyously enough to crack a few windows.
Then, in the blink of an eye, my dad took my arm and the doors swung open. And I saw you. Clapping and singing with the band. NOT standing at the alter. But instead, dancing, halfway down the aisle, your face lit up with joy. I think that's my favorite memory from our day. Because you see, we will never be a conventional couple. We will never follow ALL of the rules or make sound decisions based completely on fact. But we follow our hearts and do things OUR way. For better or for worse.
We are gospel choirs in a Catholic Church. We are peanut butter chocolate cupcakes. We are yellow heels and white sneakers. We are vintage trucks and old mason jars. We are us. And us is perfectly imperfect.
I love us.
