The books of our childhood can also be the books of their childhood. How amazing is that? I love sharing characters that I adored as a child with Lucy and watching her reaction to them.
She received a set of books from her Gramby full of the best of the best and she is obsessed! The Classic Characters of Golden Books is wonderful and we highly reccomend it!
These golden books only received 2 squeals from Lucy BUT that's because she was too busy giving them 5 meows, 5 E,E,EEEEs, 5 barks and 5 roars. She isn't squealing over these because she's too busy making animal noises! The two that have received the most love (this week) are The Shy Little Kitten and The Tawny Scrawny Lion. We haven't read Tootles yet, perhaps we have finally found a book this little girl doesn't care for. Time will tell.
I am thoroughly enjoying getting reaquainted with these characters again and even got a little nervous when Tawny Scrawny Lion started chasing other animals to EAT! But the cute twist ending had me smiling almost as big as Lucy. Each story has its own moral that unfolds cleverly and in a way that a child can understand. I love that the Saggy Baggy Elephant finds a herd of Elephants who are saggy just like him and the Shy Little Kitten meets lots of new friends on her way home.
Whether these are characters you loved as a child, or they are characters that you are just meeting, the set of vintage books is definitely a treat! Be ready to read them over and over and over, because they stand the test of time, and children can't resist the bright illustrations or the cute and clever storylines!
