We are celebrating St. Patrick's Day all week with green, gold and rainbow EVERYTHING! It's fun to change up our activities according to season and holiday while also keeping some open ended materials (like blocks!) in constant rotation. The sensory bin caught Lucy's eye right away (how could it not!) and she got right to work.
I like to start activities like this with everything neatly side by side and then let her decide what to do with them. After playing with the beads for a little while, she decided to dump the rainbows and glitter out of the containers. The glitter and sequins stayed in the empty basin while the rainbows and gold coins went right into the water beads.
She played with the beads for much of the morning: mixing, sorting, and trying to grab materials with tweezers and tongs. This sensory bin is a hit!
The sensory bin will stay for a few days and she's been using it daily. She made up a game that we play together, taking turns trying to find the rainbows and coins buried in the beads. She is so proud that she came up with such a fun game all on her own!
What else would you add to our water bead sensory bin? Shamrocks? Gems? Let me know in the comments!
