This past weekend, we couldn't gather for Palm Sunday, which was always one of my favorite days in the church I grew up in. We sang Hosanna and had a processional with banners and streamers, a joyful contrast to the sadness that was to come the following Friday. Although we couldn't gather in worship, we took a walk to the church grounds and spent some time there. It was a nice change of scenery and Lucy loves the flowering trees and daffodils that decorate the landscape around our church.
They are prediciting this is going to be one of the worst weeks for the tri state area and we are doing our best to keep the Easter spirit of hope alive. The entire world is hurting and the only we can control (because we are not on the frontlines) is what goes on within the four walls that protect us. The best thing we can right now is stay put, keep joy in our home, hope in our heart and prayers on our lips. So, we say goodbye to Palm Sunday and we prepare for Easter. We prepare in adult ways, with prayers and contemplation and we also celebrate in time honored childhood traditions with fun books, egg dying and brightly colored decorations.
I know that many parents out there are struggling to find time. Time for anything. Time for everything. Suddenly, everything is on your shoulders, cooking, cleaning, facilitating distance learning, shopping and working a full time job without ever leaving your home AND somehow the Easter baskets need to be filled next weekend. I just want to say, you've got this and it's ok. It's ok not to be ok. It's ok to feel overwhelmed. It's ok to feel however you are feeling right now. We are all in this together.
I've compiled a list of Lucy's favorite Easter books in case you need a little help in the Easter Bunny department and enjoying them with your children TOTALLY counts as a reading lesson! :)
Sending you love and light from afar until we can gather together again and rejoice when this is all over.
