Lucy's Wish: A Playhouse

“joy is a decision, a really brave one, about how you are going to respond to life. -Wes Stafford”

We were absoultely thrilled when we found out that Lucy's wish for a playhouse would be granted. Diagnosed with retinoblastoma at just 8 weeks old, her childhood has never been typical. She endured three different types of chemotherapy along with countless other procedures and she'll continue to be closely monitered for the forseable future. Despite all of the tests, surgeries, and days spent in the hospital, she is unfailingly optimistic, finding joy everywhere. She loves spending time outside and when inside can often be found reading or painting.

As we watched Lucy's wish come to life in our backyard, her excitement could not be contained. We would often visit after Mr. Chris, the builder, went home for the night or on the weekends. He went above and beyond, cleaning up every night, making sure it was safe for her, knowing that she would want to visit the construction site.

And then one day, the house was finished and her reaction was priceless. She couldn't stop jumping up and down while squealing PLAYHOUSSSSEEEE!!!

The playhouse had been set up from top to bottom and there was no end of surprises for our nature and book loving Lucy. Everywhere she looked were perfect little accessories to make her feel right at home. And it didn't take long for her to settle in.

As I watch Lucy settle into her very own special place, I can't help but think of all the memories she can make in her playhouse. How the entire wish team went above and beyond to really get to know Lucy so that every single detail fit her personality. How we'll be talking about all of our Make A Wish friends: Miss Joan, Miss Amy, Mr. Chris, & Miss Lisa who made Lucy feel so special, for YEARS. Countless others helped behind the scenes and we love them too.

Covid has created a tough situation for Make A Wish and while Lucy's wish for a playhouse could be granted during a time of social distancing many wishes have had to be put on hold. Make a Wish is still trying their hardest to grant wishes and provide joy to the children whose wishes have to wait until it's safe to travel, but they need our help! Their Summer Of Hope campaign is wrapping up at the end of August, might you consider helping to make wishes like Lucy's come true? Click below, no amount is too small!
