We love salt trays! A salt tray is the perfect tool for drawing and writing. Kids can use pencils, sticks, or their fingers to draw and erase it with a shake of the tray! Lucy has slowly begun writing letters and one of her favorite activities is trying new ones in a salt tray!
I dyed the salt pink, added a pencil and left it out for her to find in the morning. She didn't need any help figuring out just what to do. She began drawing in it immediately and after a bit, I brought out some letter cards and added a few ABC books to the table. Before long, she started experimenting with capital Qs, a first for her, and she was absolutely delighted.
Salt is a great no pressure medium for kids to experiment with and the best part is, they can just shake the tray and start over whenever they want!
Dying salt is super easy and your kids can help!

Pour the salt into the plastic bag, add a few drops of food coloring, and shake. It's that simple.

After the salt is the color that you want, pour it into a tray and let the kids have fun!

I hope you enjoy this activity. It's simple, enjoyable, and so versatile!
